Winter storms and the damage they can cause in Brookfield, CT
2/3/2017 (Permalink)
Like it or not, winter storms are weaved into the fabric of our lives here in Northwestern Connecticut. We love the first few – the big snowflakes, dropping temperatures and cozy feeling of sitting in front of the fire looking at the winter wonderland outside. By February, however, most of us in the New Milford area are tired of slipping around on the ice and have declared ourselves done with snow and are threatening to move down south!
Winter can be a hard time for your Litchfield County home, as well. Ice dams can harm roofs and cause water damage to the ceilings and walls of a home. Frozen pipes that burst are often disastrous to homes – damaging floors, ceilings, cabinetry and personal belongings. Tree limbs that can no longer bear the weight of snow and ice sometimes break, damaging the roof of a house and allowing water to enter the home.
The use of fireplaces and wood stoves raises the risk of home fires. Furnace puffback's can send soot throughout your home - covering drapes, bedding, furniture, cabinets, walls, and everything in between. SERVPRO of Newtown and Southern Litchfield County has even answered a few calls for oil spills at Bethel area homes this winter, a job that requires us to clean up the hazardous substance.
Hang on, friends. We're more than halfway through the winter and will be seeing the green pop and birds chirping in Connecticut before we know it. In the meantime, stay warm and keep safe!
