Black mold hidden behind kitchen cabinets of Fairfield County home
The SERVPRO of Newtown and Southern Litchfield County team was called to a Danbury, CT home where black mold was found behind the kitchen cabinets. Often, kitchen mold can go undetected until a plumber is called in due to a leak or a kitchen remodeling reveals mold after the cabinets are removed. In this case, a slow leak due to a pipe blockage had allowed a stream of water to keep the walls and cabinets moist. Add in the porous materials of wood and sheetrock and the lack of light and it was a perfect environment for mold to grow.
After the pipe had been repaired, our team removed the mold infested sheetrock and cabinetry. We then used air movers to filter the air and dehumidifiers to dry out the room and used antimicrobial cleaners on the wood studs and flooring.
